Lady Tiger tennis drops matches in Oklahoma, vs. Johnson County

Facing tough competition at the Seminole Trojan Festival held Friday and Saturday in Oklahoma City, Okla., the Cowley College women’s tennis team battled hard but were unable to come away with a victory.

The Lady Tigers lost matches to Collin County (8-1), North Central Texas College (8-1), Arkansas Fort Smith (6-3), and Seminole State (7-2). Cowley also lost a home match against Johnson County on Monday by a score of 6-3.

“We did not play as good against Johnson as I had hoped we would,” Cowley head coach Josh Cobble said.

Cowley had to play all five matches without its No. 2 singles player, Karolina Porizkova, who was limited to playing just three of five doubles matches.

“Losing Karolina for those matches was a big loss for us,” Cowley head coach Josh Cobble said.

The three doubles matches Porizkova took part in were dominated by Porizkova and her doubles partner Kasia Siwosz as the duo lost just one game out of 25.

Siwosz also dominated in singles play as she won all five of her matches. Cowley received just two other wins from its singles players as Monica Medina (pictured) defeated Johnson County’s Shelly Barger 7-5, 2-6, 10-5 at No. 3 singles, and Cassie Powell defeated Arkansas Fort Smith’s Kenzie McGullough 7-5, 6-3 in No. 5 singles action.

Cowley will return to action Saturday when they play at Barton County at noon. They will then play at Bethany College Sunday at 11 a.m.
