Lady Tiger tennis drops a pair of matches on the road

Karolina PorizkovaPlaying at Barton County and Bethany College over the weekend, the Cowley College women’s tennis team found wins hard to come by.

The Lady Tigers started the weekend by playing at Barton County on Saturday. With Kasia Siwosz and Karolina Porizkova (pictured) not at full strength, the duo suffered an 8-4 loss to Barton’s Le Nguyen Trang and Kateryna Chorna at No. 1 doubles.

Both Siwosz and Porizkova had to default their matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles as did Elizabeth Galindo at No. 5 singles. Cassie Powell was a lone bright spot in the Lady Tigers’ 9-0 loss to the Cougars as she took Alexis Crowther to three sets before losing at No. 6 singles.

On Sunday, Siwosz and Porizkova returned to dominance as they teamed to win its No. 1 doubles match by a score of 8-0. Siwosz also beat Beth Prier 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Porizkova pulled out a three-set win over Michelle Hinman in No. 2 singles play.

However, that would account for all of Cowley’s wins on the day as Bethany won the match by a score of 6-3.

Cowley will now prepare for the Region VI Tournament, which will begin Friday at 8 a.m. at Wichita’s Riverside Tennis Center. The tournament will resume Saturday at 9 a.m. The top-three teams at the tournament will qualify to compete at the national tournament.

“We have to do well at our top spots in the line up and then have players at the bottom step up,” Cowley head coach Josh Cobble said.
