Attempting to repeat as the No. 1 singles champion, Cowley College sophomore
Kasia Siwosz has won her first two matches at the NJCAA Division
I National Championships in Tucson, AZ.
Siwosz has yet to drop a game at the tournament in singles play as
she defeated Temple College’s Anna Lobnitz and Johnson County’s
Claudia Voicu 6-0, 6-0.
“Kasia is playing her best tennis of the year,” Cowley head coach
Josh Cobble said. “She always plays her best against good competition.”
Siwosz and teammate Karolina Porizkova opened defense of its No. 1 doubles
title by defeating the doubles tandem of Christine Curren and Maria Mendes
from Arkansas Fort Smith, 6-1, 6-1.
“They have a tough draw, but it is still very winnable,” Cobble
said.

Porizkova lost her first singles match of the tournament against top-seeded
Jessica Mezo from Laredo Community College, 6-0, 6-1. However, Porizkova
bounced back to defeat Seward County’s Jessica Mezo 6-0, 6-0, and
then knocked off Mississippi Gulf Coast’s Katrina Little 6-0, 6-0.
Thanks to the efforts of Siwosz and Porizkova, Cowley is currently in
23rd place in the team standings.
