Cowley
College sophomore Kasia Siwosz has advanced to the semifinals of No.
1 singles at the NJCAA Division I National Championships in Tucson,
AZ.
After winning her first two matches 6-0, 6-0, Siwosz defeated Tyler
Junior College’s Ashley Irvin Tuesday in three sets (6-1, 5-7,
6-3).
Siwosz will continue her quest for back-to-back No. 1 singles titles
when she plays a semifinal match today against Hillsborough Community
College’s Nachell Proctor.
Siwosz teamed with Karolina Porizkova to win the duo’s opening
doubles match on Monday. The duo then defeated the doubles team of Jo’Vonna
Gaines and Kylie George from North Central Texas College 6-0, 6-2 on
Tuesday afternoon to advance to the quarterfinals later that evening.
After dropping the first set to the doubles
tandem of Raquel Castro and Kate Mazakova from Central Florida Community
College, Siwosz and Porizkova rallied to win the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Siwosz and Porizkova, the defending No. 1 doubles champions, will play
a semifinal match today against Lee College’s Natalie Araya and
Anna Djananova.
Siowsz and Porizkova, the Lady Tigers’ lone competitors at the
tournament, have garnered Cowley 13 points in the team standings. Tyler
Junior College leads the tournament with 42 team points.
