Suffering
the first singles defeat of her collegiate career, Cowley College sophomore
Kasia Siwosz lost to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s Monika
Lalewicz 3-6, 3-6 in the championship match of the NJCAA Division I
Tennis National Championships played this morning in Tucson, AZ.
Lalewicz finished the season unbeaten at No. 1 singles.
Siwosz (pictured) finishes a brilliant career at Cowley as she captured
No. 1 singles and doubles titles as a freshman and advanced to the championship
match at No. 1 singles and semifinals at No. 1 doubles as a sophomore.
“She’s an amazing tennis player, she’s irreplaceable,” Cowley
head coach Josh Cobble said.
With Siwosz and Karolina Porizkova as its only two competitors at the
national tournament, the Cowley College women’s tennis team finished
20th in the nation with 15 team points.
Playing No. 2 singles, Porizkova won two of three singles matches at
the national championships. She also teamed with Siwosz to nearly repeat
as No. 1 doubles champions before losing in the semifinals.
“I hate to lose these two, they are great kids that came in and helped
us be successful,” Cobble said.
Siwosz will move on to play at the University of Baylor next season,
while Porizkova will resume her playing career at NCAA Division II Nova
Southeastern University in Florida.
“I see them doing great things at the next level,” Cobble said.
