Tigers hit several new NJCAA national qualifying marks

Competing on one of the best indoor tracks in the country, the Cowley College men and women’s track and field teams had several new athletes hit national qualifying marks at the University of Nebraska-Adidas Classic held Friday and Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb.

Cowley was competing against NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NAIA and junior college schools.

New national qualifiers for the Tigers were Ashley Cronin in the 5,000-meter run, Nate Newland in the mile run, Jonathan Cherono in the 5,000-meter run, Rolando Vasquez in the 1,000-meter run, and Brett Koehn and Mauricio Morales in the 3,000-meter run.

Cronin, who placed third with a time of 18:51.67 in the 5,000-meter run, previously qualified for nationals in the 1,000 and 3,000-meter runs, and also as a member of the women's distance medley team.

Kelsey Poljansek continued her stellar season, breaking her own record in the weight throw with a distance of 48 feet, 4.75 inches.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team (Larry Hill, Deion Ruble, Dakota Price and Justin Viewins) broke the school indoor record, turning in a time of 3:20.94.

Jeniffer Cherono (3,000-meter run), Larry Hill (800-meter run), Dakota Price (800-meter run), David Starnes (pole vault) and the 4x400-meter relay team hit national qualifying marks, again.
