Track teams get in final tune up

Taking a small number of athletes to the Bethel College Invite Saturday in Newton, the Cowley College track and field teams got in a final tune up before competing in the Region VI/Jayhawk Conference meet Thursday through Saturday in Coffeyville.

On the women’s side, Sasha Oliver and Kelsey Poljansek finished first in the triple jump and shot put, respectively. While, David Starnes’ first place finish in the pole vault highlighted the Tiger men’s accomplishments at the meet.

The Tiger track and field teams will prepare to put their titles on the line, as they are the defending Region VI/Jayhawk Conference champions.

Results:
WOMEN
•Pole vault — Anna German, 9-6, third.
•Long jump — Sasha Oliver, 15-3, fifth.
•Triple jump — Oliver, 35-8, first.
•Shot put — Kelsey Poljansek, 44-4, first, national qualifier.

MEN
•400-meter dash — Sean Brown, 53.32, fifth.
•1,500-meter run — Tristan Wall, 4:29.02, seventh.
•110-meter hurdles — Rusty Gray, 1:01.09, third.
•400-meter hurdles — Rusty Gray, 1:01.09, third.
•High jump — Brown, 6-0, fourth.
•Pole vault — David Starnes, 15-0, first, national qualifier; Mark Butler, 13-6, third; Jordan Pote, 13-6, sixth.
•Long jump — Butler, 19-0 ¼, eighth.
•Javelin — Mitch Hewitt, 162-1, seventh.
