It was a tale of two halves for the Cowley College
women’s basketball team during Wednesday night’s game at
Johnson County.
The Lady Tigers built an 11-point halftime lead by holding the Lady
Cavaliers to just 11 first half points. However, Johnson County out-scored
Cowley 49-20 in the second half as they rallied to win 60-42.
After not being able to buy a bucket in the first half, Johnson County
seemed as if they couldn’t miss in the game’s final 20
minutes of play. Cowley head coach Todd Clark thought a lot of that
had to do with his squad not playing with the same intensity as they
did in the first half.
“We were not very good in the second half at all,” Clark said. “We
did not play tough.”
Johnson County out-shot Cowley 60 percent to 23 percent in the second
half. The Lady Cavaliers’ Heather Rourk scored all 10 of her
points in the second half, while Danielle Shows finished with a game-high
15 points. Johnson County is now 18-7 overall and 8-5 in the Jayhawk
Conference Eastern Division.
Cowley was led by Whitney Williams’ 12 points. The Lady Tigers
are now 14-11 overall and 9-4 in the conference.
Cowley will return to Arkansas City to begin a four-game home-stand
beginning with Saturday’s game vs. Highland at 5 p.m. Cowley
defeated the Lady Scotties (9-16 overall, 1-12 Jayhawk East) by a
score of 72-47 on Jan. 19.
