Wright signs to play basketball at Newman

Alexis WrighHaving helped the Cowley College women’s basketball team to back-to-back 21-win seasons, Alexis Wright will take her game to the next level as she recently signed to play basketball at Newman University.

Newman University head coach Tracy Anderson is a former assistant coach at Cowley, while Lady Jets assistant Deanna Couch previously served as the head coach at Neosho County.

“We are ecstatic for her,” Cowley head coach Todd Clark said. “I feel it is a good fit for her and its close to home.”

Wright, who played high school basketball at Derby, is looking forward to the opportunity to play for the Lady Jets.

“I am really excited about going on to the next level and being able to stay close to my family and friends,” Wright said. “I really want to get better as a player and do whatever the team needs me to do.”

Wright was a valuable role player for the Lady Tigers as she finished fourth on the team in steals and fifth in assists.

“I appreciate Alexis for accepting different roles on the team,” Clark said. “The team came first and that’s why Alexis has been successful.”

Although excited about her opportunity to play at Newman, Wright will miss playing for the Lady Tigers.

“I really bonded with the coaches and players, it was an experience I will never forget,” Wright said.
