The Cowley College baseball team out-hit Kansas City 22-5 in its doubleheader in Kansas City on Saturday. However, the Tigers could manage only a split of the two games as they won the opener 9-1 but lost the second game 3-1.

In game one, Stephen Kohlscheen improved to 5-1 on the season by allowing just one hit in seven innings. Cowley scored two runs in each of the first four innings as they coasted to the 9-1 win.

Ronald Melendez and B.J. Misialek had three hits a piece as the Tigers pounded out 16 hits in game one. Ryan Hege hit his third home run of the season in the victory.

In the nightcap, Alex Schell (3-2) shut out Kansas City through the first five innings as Cowley held a 1-0 lead. However, the Blue Devils scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 3-1.

All three runs were charged to Schell, who went 5 2/3 innings on the mound. Trevor Rosenthal recorded the final out of the sixth inning. Kansas City’s Dean Whiteside held Cowley to six hits in game two. Misialek had two of the Tigers’ six hits in the defeat.

The loss of the second game snapped Cowley’s win streak at 10 games. Cowley is now two games behind Johnson County in the loss column. However, the Tigers (19-5) have played six more games than Johnson County (15-3) in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division.
