Specht, Misialek go deep in Tigers’ 9-3 win over Emporia State JV
Squeezing in a non-conference game Monday in Emporia, the Cowley College
baseball team got home runs from Frank Specht and B.J. Misialek in a
9-3 win over Emporia State University.
Specht and Misialek are tied for the team lead in home runs with six
apiece. Specht’s solo home run helped Cowley grab a 3-2 lead in
the top of the fourth inning. While, Misialek’s homer capped a
six-run sixth inning that gave the Tigers a 9-2 advantage.
Misialek also stole three bases in the win as he now leads the team in
stolen bases (17) and runs batted in (44). He is second to Colt Loehrs
(.402 average) in batting (.393 average).
Four Tiger pitchers combined to strike out 13 batters as Cowley improved
to 29-10 on the season. Freshman Randon Ridling started on the mound
and allowed four hits and two runs in three innings pitched.
Redshirt freshman J.D. Sutton (1-0) made his first appearance as a Tiger
a memorable one as he pitched two hitless innings of relief and picked
up the win. Sutton struck out three and walked two.
John Maler followed with two scoreless innings of relief work, while
Eric Faust finished off the win. Faust allowed one run in two innings,
while striking out four and walking two.
Freshman outfielder Caleb Bass took advantage of a rare start and had
three of the Tigers’ 11 hits.
Cowley will be back in action today when they play a doubleheader at
Allen County at 3 p.m. The Tigers (19-5) are two games behind Johnson
County (15-3) in the loss column in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division
standings, while Allen County is in fourth place in the conference with
a record of 12-10.
