Squeezing in a non-conference game Monday in Emporia, the Cowley College baseball team got home runs from Frank Specht and B.J. Misialek in a 9-3 win over Emporia State University.

Specht and Misialek are tied for the team lead in home runs with six apiece. Specht’s solo home run helped Cowley grab a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning. While, Misialek’s homer capped a six-run sixth inning that gave the Tigers a 9-2 advantage.

Four Tiger pitchers combined to strike out 13 batters as Cowley improved to 29-10 on the season. Freshman Randon Ridling started on the mound and allowed four hits and two runs in three innings pitched.

Redshirt freshman J.D. Sutton (1-0) made his first appearance as a Tiger a memorable one as he pitched two hitless innings of relief and picked up the win. Sutton struck out three and walked two.

John Maler followed with two scoreless innings of relief work, while Eric Faust finished off the win. Faust allowed one run in two innings, while striking out four and walking two.

Freshman outfielder Caleb Bass took advantage of a rare start and had three of the Tigers’ 11 hits.
