Cargill named Honorable Mention All-American
Putting together an impressive first season for the Cowley College baseball
team, redshirt freshman Zach Cargill was named an honorable mention
All-American.
Cargill, a left-handed pitcher from Washington, Okla., went 8-1 with
an earned run average just over 2.00. He struck out 60 batters in 61
innings.
“I am happy for Zach, the good thing about it is he has got another year
with us,” Cowley head coach Dave Burroughs said. “He came a long
way and put in a lot of hard work.”
Cargill helped anchor a Tiger pitching staff that was one of the best
in the nation. Cowley finished the season at the JUCO World Series in
Grand Junction, Co. During the season, Cowley captured its third straight
Jayhawk East title and its second Region VI title in the past three years.
Burroughs expects even bigger things from Cargill next season.
“I hope he can go from an Honorable Mention All-American to a First-Team
All-American next year,” Burroughs said. “That would benefit not
only him but our team as well.”
