14th annual Tiger Skins/Brian Groves Memorial Golf Tournament a success
With 27 teams taking part in Cowley College’s 14th annual Tiger
Skins/Brian Groves Memorial Golf Tournament Saturday at the Arkansas
City Country Club, the event was once again a huge success.
Tom Saia, director of athletics at Cowley, was pleased with the amount
of money raised for Tiger Booster Club scholarships.
“I want to thank the people that participated and helped work the Tiger
Skins/Brian Groves Memorial Golf Tournament,” Saia said. “A number
of people contributed to make this a successful event. It’s a great way
to kick off the school year.”
Cowley College athletic trainer Jeff Fluty and former Tiger baseball
player Aaron Robbins were part of the low gross winning team for the
second consecutive year. Fluty and Robbins teamed with Jon Macklin and
Dewayne Sparks to capture the low gross (54).
The team of Brad Schwintz, Tom Donnay, Marty Hooper, and Scott Sutherland
took home the title for low net (36).
Four former Tiger baseball players teamed to finish second in the low
new category as Blake Mitchell, Brent Hodge, Kyle Head and Mike Dabbs
finished with a 37.
Tony Watkins, John Foust, Scott MacLaughlin and Denny MacLaughlin teamed
to claim third net (38). While, Brian Sanderholm, Aaron Sanderholm, Mike
Sanderholm and Dennis Strange captured fourth net (40).
Cowley College sophomore Colt Loehrs (pictured) was named the Brian Groves
Memorial Scholarship recipient during the tournament. Pictured with Loehrs
are Shannon Massey, Cowley College’s Director of Alumni and Endowment,
and Mike Groves.
