Tiger men’s soccer suffers 4-1 road defeat

Nick SobbaPlaying its first ever road contest Tuesday at Allen County Community College, the Cowley College men’s soccer team jumped out to an early lead before falling by a score of 4-1.

Cowley got a goal from Nick Sobba with just 11:44 gone in the first half as they jumped out to the 1-0 lead. The Tigers would hold on to the one-goal advantage until the Red Devils’ Hiram Raby scored with just over seven minutes left in the first half.

“That was a blow to us because instead of being ahead at halftime we were tied,” Cowley head coach Roberto Dos Santos said.

Allen County sophomore Brent Mulford took over in the second half by scoring three goals.

“They did a good job capitalizing on their opportunities in the second half,” Dos Santos said. “We are a young squad, each game is a lesson for them.”

Sobba’s goal was his second in two games. The freshman from Wichita had four of the Tigers’ seven shots on goal.

“I am really pleased to see his development,” Dos Santos said.

Keegan Cornelius assisted on Sobba’s goal, while Blake Anderson registered five saves in goal for the Tigers.

Cowley is now 1-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Jayhawk Conference. Allen County improves to 1-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

The Tigers will now prepare to host Cloud County Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Thunderbirds are 4-0 on the season.
