Tiger soccer plays a pair of overtime game

soccerPlaying a pair of soccer games on the road over the weekend, the Cowley College men’s soccer team led both contests late in the games before suffering a tie and a loss in the two games.

On Friday, Cowley led at Northeastern Oklahoma until late in the game. However, The Norsemen got a goal from Nathan Hamilton to tie the score at 2-2 with 3:02 left in regulation.

The teams would then play two scoreless 10 minute overtime sessions as the game ended in a tie.

“The guys played hard and marked them tight,” Cowley head coach Roberto Dos Santos said. “We had a mistake in the back cost us on the last goal, but overall it was a good game.”

Cole Hahn and Diego Mendez scored the Tigers’ goals, while Dayton Rodrigues and Jesse Lovelace were credited with assists.

On Saturday, Cowley again led late in its game at Crowder College. This time, the Tigers led 3-1 before Crowder rallied to force overtime by scoring two goals in the final five minutes of play.

In the extra session, Crowder picked up where it left in regulation as they scored the game winner just a little over a minute into overtime.

“Crowder took advantage of their momentum,” Dos Santos said.

Rodrigues scored the Tigers’ first goal, while Nick Sobba scored Cowley’s other two goals.

Cowley is now 4-6-1 on the season. The Tigers will be back in action Saturday when they host a rematch against Northeastern Oklahoma at 4 p.m.

“This time off will be good for us to regroup and get some people healed up,” Dos Santos said.
