Lady Tiger Softball Clinic brings in participants from all over the area
Wanting an opportunity to learn from one of the most successful collegiate
softball coaching staffs in the country, 135 area youth are taking part
in the Cowley College Lady Tigers “Girls Can Play” Summer
Clinic held Monday and Tuesday at Lady Tiger Field in Arkansas City.
Members of the six-time defending Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division
champion Cowley College softball team are helping head coach Ed Hargrove
and assistant coach Suzanne Kerr-Unruh conduct the clinic. Former Tigers
such as two-time All-American Ashly Bright, are also helping with the
clinic.
There are 65 children age 10 and under that are taking part in the morning
clinic, while there are 70 participants age 11-18 in the afternoon session.
The clinic is designed to cover skills needed to become a highly successful
and complete softball player. It includes an overview of hitting, bunting,
and many drills.
The defensive session focuses on teaching the fundamentals to help players
become better defensively. Also, the 10 and under groups have a session
on “fundamentals of pitching” instructed by former and returning
Cowley softball pitchers.
A percentage of the camp proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer
Society.
