Cowley College Blitz Drive raises $40,000
Surpassing its fundraising goal for its annual Blitz Drive, Cowley College’s
Tiger Booster Club totaled $40,000 in pledges on Tuesday.
The annual Blitz Drive has continued to raise more money in each of the
14 years that Tom Saia has served as Cowley’s director of athletics.
This year’s goal was $30,000.
“I want to thank the people of Cowley County that have been so good to
our athletic department,” Saia said. “Times are tough so we appreciate
the people that gave to the Tiger Booster Club.”
Along with the Tiger Skins Golf Tournament held in August and other fundraising,
the Tiger Booster Club has raised nearly $75,000 this year.
“We greatly exceeded our expectations,” Saia said.
Cowley College strives to have successful student-athletes as they had
seven teams make the list of the NJCAA All-Academic squads.
After finishing second in the nation (during the 2006-07 season) in the
NATYCAA Cup standings, which recognizes excellence in two-year college
athletics, Cowley once again finished in the top-10 during the 2007-08
academic year.
“We have got great coaches and great programs that bring in outstanding
student-athletes,” Saia said. “We want to give the community of
Cowley County something to be proud of.”
The Tiger Booster Club has six levels of membership that range from $100
to $2,500. TBC members are admitted free to all Tiger sporting events.
Anyone interested in becoming a Tiger Booster Club member can contact
the Cowley Athletic Department at 441-5589.
