Cowley women blast Kansas City, prepare to host Coffeyville
Placing four players in double figures, the Cowley College women’s
basketball team snapped a two-game skid with an impressive 74-31 win
at Kansas City Community College on Saturday.
The Lady Tigers came out strong from the opening tip as they took a commanding
39-13 lead into the halftime intermission. Cowley kept up its intensity
in the second half as they posted the 43-point road win.
Cowley out-shot the Lady Blue Devils 50.9 percent to 25.6 percent from
the floor as they improved to 12-5 overall and 3-2 in the Jayhawk East.
The Lady Tigers will host conference leading Coffeyville tonight at 5:30
p.m. Coffeyville is 15-2 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
Against Kansas City, Gabbie Curtis led the way with 18 points and six
steals, while Bebe Holloway chipped in with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Elena Yankova (13 points, seven rebounds) and Whitney Williams (10 points,
eight rebounds) also scored in double figures.
Freshmen Kaneesha Lee (eight points) and Brianna Gonzalez (six points)
combined to go 5-for-5 from the floor as they gave Cowley valuable minutes
of playing time.
Kansas City falls to 9-8 overall and 2-3 in the Jayhawk East.
