Lady Tiger cross country places 14th at OSU Jamboree

Competing against 26 schools at the Oklahoma State University Jamboree held Saturday in Stillwater, Okla., the Cowley College women’s cross country team placed 14th.

Jessica McLeod was the Lady Tigers’ top finisher, as she placed 33rd with a time of 20:10 in the 5,000-meter race. Former Cowley runner, Jennifer Cherono, sister of men’s race winner, Jonathan Cherono, won the women’s race with a time of 18:31.

Another former Tiger, Ashley Cronin, placed 69th while running for Oklahoma Baptist University.

“It was neat to see Jennifer and Ashley do well,” Cowley head coach Vince DeGrado said.

Cowley freshman Cecilia Burley ran a good race, as she placed 50th out of 218 runners with a time of 20:33.

“We’re still progressing with the women and will continue to get better,” DeGrado said.

Butler Community College won the women’s race by a whopping 71 points over second place Midwestern State (Texas).

The Lady Tigers will not compete again until the Jayhawk Conference/Region VI meet held Oct. 27 in Colby.

“We will use this time to recover and prepare for the meet,” DeGrado said.

(33) Jessica McLeod, 20:10; (50) Cecelia Burley, 20:33; (84) Marvia Lewin, 21:34; (85) Janee Gabbard, 21:38; (94) Robin Ray, 21:52.
