Hernandez scores five goals in Lady Tiger soccer’s 6-0 win

Amber HernandezContinuing the amazing start to her collegiate career, freshman forward Amber Hernandez scored five goals in the Cowley College women’s soccer team’s 6-0 dismantling of Allen County Monday in Iola.

Hernandez scored two goals in the first half and added three more in the second half as she ran her season goal total to 10.

“Amber was focused and had a really solid performance,” Cowley head coach Roberto Dos Santos said. “She is maturing each and every game.”

Andrea Castro tallied her first goal of the season as she scored just 2:44 into the second half to put Cowley on top 3-0.

“That goal provided a boost for us,” Dos Santos said.

Cowley shuffled several players around to get them playing time at different positions. Due to this, six players registered assists for the Lady Tigers. The assists came from Angelica Gutierrez, Carol Rodrigues, Allyson Duda, Katie Ybarra, Brittany Griffin, and Hernandez.

Carly Budd recorded her second shutout of the season as she stopped all four shots she faced.

Cowley is now 2-2 overall and in the conference. Allen County falls to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action Wednesday when they host Cloud County at 3 p.m. The Lady Thunderbirds are 0-3 on the season. This will be Cowley’s fourth game in the last week.

“Being at home will be a huge help for us rest wise,” Dos Santos said.
