Unbeaten Lady Blue Dragons upend Cowley 2-0

Carly BuddThe No. 13-ranked Hutchinson Lady Blue Dragon soccer team got a pair of first half goals from Chelsea Myers and made the lead stand up as they defeated Cowley College 2-0 Wednesday in Ark City.

Hutchinson, which is ranked 13th in the nation, out-shot the Lady Tigers 19-3. Strong play by goalkeeper Carly Budd (pictured) allowed the Lady Tigers an opportunity to stay close. However, Cowley was unable to capitalize on its few offensive chances.

“Despite the defeat I am really pleased with the way the girls performed,” Cowley head coach Roberto Dos Santos said. “We fought the entire game.”

Leilah Saadi assisted both of Myers’ goals. The combination of Myers and Saadi kept Budd busy as they combined for 12 shots on goal.

“Carly had a solid game and was very attentive reading plays and coming out of the box,” Dos Santos said.

Cowley freshman Amber Hernandez, the NJCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, was held scoreless for the first time this season.

“They were marking her tight,” Dos Santos said.

Also playing tight defense was Cowley freshman Allyson Duda.

“Allyson had a tremendous game,” Dos Santos said.

The loss drops Cowley’s record to 4-5 on the season, while Hutchinson improves to 9-0.

Cowley will not return to action until Tuesday when they host Garden City at 7 p.m.

“We are coping with some little injuries so it will be good to have time to heal,” Dos Santos said.
