Hernandez named NJCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week
Scoring seven goals in two games, Cowley College freshman Amber Hernandez
was named the NJCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week.
Hernandez shared the honor with Nikeisha Noel (East Mississippi Community
College), and Michelle McElroy (Hutchinson Community College).
Hernandez, a native of Ponca City, Okla., scored five goals in Cowley's
6-0 shutout victory over region 6 foe Dodge City on Sept. 17. She then
scored two additional goals on Sept. 20 in a 7-2 loss to Butler.
Hernandez currently leads the first-year Cowley soccer program in goals
(20) and points (42). Cowley head coach Roberto Dos Santos was thrilled
to see Hernandez recognized for the award.
“This is tremendous for her and the whole team,” Dos Santos said. “She
is getting rewarded for her hard work and this puts us in the national spotlight.”
