Lady Tiger soccer has rough day at Johnson County
Facing a physical Johnson County squad Tuesday in Overland Park, the
Cowley College women’s soccer team suffered a 9-1 defeat.
Cowley trailed 3-0 at the end of the first half and 4-0 just 29 seconds
into the second half. Playing without leading scorer Amber Hernandez,
who left the game midway through the first half with an injury, Cowley
got on the board thanks to a goal from Carol Rodrigues. Angelica Gutierrez
assisted on the goal, which came 8:41 into the second half.
Johnson County’s depth and physical play proved to be too much
for Cowley to overcome as the Lady Cavaliers followed Rodrigues’ goal
by scoring five times over the next 16 minutes of play.
Caitlin Sutter led Johnson County by scoring three times. The Lady Cavaliers
are now 9-4-1 overall and 7-1 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division.
Cowley, which is now 6-7 overall and 4-5 in the Jayhawk East, will have
to play Friday’s home game against Hesston College without one
of its top defenders. Allyson Duda was issued a red card in the game
vs. Johnson County and will have to sit out the game against Hesston.
Friday’s game will start at 2 p.m.
