Students of the game
Forty five youngsters entering grades two through six were on hand for
the first day of the SUCCESS IS A CHOICE Basketball Camp held Tuesday
inside Cowley College’s W.S. Scott Auditorium. The camp will
run through Friday from 9:30 a.m. until noon, while students entering
grades seven through 12 will meet inside the arena each afternoon from
1:30-4 p.m.
The camp is being led by Cowley head men’s basketball coach Tommy
DeSalme and assistant coaches Donnie Jackson and Dane Kelly. Tiger players
and other area coaches will be assisting the coaches during the week.
The purpose of the camp is to teach and build upon basic fundamental
skills through repetition, drills, and league competition in an atmosphere
of encouragement and fellowship. During the week, campers will learn
dedication, sportsmanship, and teamwork. This facilitates the development
of sacrifice, pride, discipline, and respect, all of which contribute
to successful athletic competition, as well as personal growth.
