Anderson to join Bacchi at Texas A&M International University

Blake AndersonHaving recently earned an associate’s degree from Cowley College, sophomore soccer player Blake Anderson signed a letter of intent to continue his playing career at Texas A&M International University.

Anderson’s signing comes just one week after his Tiger teammate, Joao Bacchi, signed with the Dustdevils. He will be joining a Texas A&M International University squad, which finished last season with a record of 6-9-3.

Anderson was not only impressed by the facilities at the school, the Exercise Science major was also pleased with what the school had to offer in terms of academics.

“I am joining a really good program with good coaches,” Anderson said. “It was a good opportunity for me to keep playing and also education wise.”

As goalkeeper for the Tigers, Anderson started the majority of the team’s games over the past two seasons.

“Blake was the first goalkeeper I recruited,” Cowley head coach Roberto Dos Santos said. “He represented himself well here and I am excited he is getting this opportunity to continue playing soccer.”

Anderson allowed an average of 1.89 goals per game as he helped Cowley to six wins in the second season of the program. Anderson posted two shutouts and allowed only seven goals in the team’s six victories.

“I think we could have gone further in the playoffs but still set a good standard for people to follow,” Anderson said. “Everyone was really great at Cowley, I had a lot of fun at the school.”

Anderson is looking forward to having Bacchi join him at Texas A&M International University.

“Bacchi and I are really good friends so it will be nice to have him there,” Anderson said. “I just felt really comfortable with the team and atmosphere when I visited the school.”
