Tiger men fall to NOC 2-0

Playing to a scoreless tie after one half of competition Tuesday vs. Northern Oklahoma College, the men's soccerCowley College men’s soccer team made a couple of mistakes in the second half that led to a 2-0 home loss.

“I told the team at halftime that we needed to avoid mistakes and that the team that took advantage of the mistakes would win,” Cowley head coach Roberto Dos Santos said. “Unfortunately, both of their goals came because of miscommunication by our midfielders in the back.”

The Mavericks did not waste time in grabbing the lead in the second half as Tomas Mares scored less than seven minutes after halftime to give NOC a 1-0 advantage. Mares would score again 10 minutes later to give NOC its final margin of victory.

In what was a well played game, both teams managed just four shots on goal.

“We fought all the way through but were unable to finish the opportunities we had,” Dos Santos said.
With the loss, Cowley is now 0-1-1 on the season. The Tigers will now prepare to host Metropolitan Community College-Blue River Saturday at 3 p.m.

Counting its double overtime tie against Allen County in its season opener, Cowley has scored only two goals in 200 minutes of play. Dos Santos wants to see his team find the back of the net more often on Saturday.

“I hope to see us continue to play hard, we just need to capitalize on the opportunities we are creating,” Dos Santos said.
