Tiger men’s soccer loses at Dodge City

Unable to cash in on its opportunities, the Cowley College men’s soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss at Dodge City on Wednesday.

The Tigers had six more shots on goal (10-4) than Dodge City and created numerous scoring chances. However, goals have been hard to come by early in the season.

Despite the defeat, Cowley head coach Roberto Dos Santos is confident his team has the talent to get things turned around.

“We all agree we need to get our confidence back, there is no doubt in my mind that we have the talent to win,” Dos Santos said.

Cowley trailed Wednesday’s game by just one goal for the majority of the contest. However, the Conquistadors scored three goals in the final 16 and a half minutes to pick up its second conference win.
The loss drops Cowley’s record to 0-3-1 overall, and 0-1-1 in the Jayhawk Conference.

Cowley’s Lucas Coelho had three shots on goal, while Joao Bacchi and Ivenns Martinez added two shots on goal a piece as the Tigers peppered the Dodge City goal with shots. Conquistador goalkeeper Dalton Burkhard rose to the challenge as he has allowed only three goals in the past three games.

The Tigers will be back in action Saturday when they host Barton County at 6 p.m. Barton County is 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Cougars have outscored their opponents 33-6 in their eight games.

Dos Santos said he is pleased with the effort his players are giving and that a win will do wonders for the team’s confidence.

“We just need that boost and be able to put it together as a team,” Dos Santos said.
