Tiger soccer team defeats Hesston for fourth straight win
Riding a tidal wave of confidence, the Cowley College men’s soccer
team picked up its fourth straight victory with a 5-1 win at Hesston
College on Saturday.
The win was a big one for the Tigers as it improved their record to 3-3-1
in the Region VI standings. Overall, Cowley is now 4-5-1. During their
four game winning streak, the Tigers have out-scored the opposition 13-3.
“This is a great stretch of games we have played,” Cowley head
coach Roberto Dos Santos said. “Saturday was a great game not just because
we finished our opportunities, but because we came out strong and were able
to keep our focus despite the cold weather.”
With the loss, Hesston is now 2-10-1 overall and 0-8 in the region.
On Saturday, Cowley got goals from five different players. Sophomore
Marko Bukva got the Tigers started quickly as he scored in the game’s
first five minutes of play.
The Tigers also got goals from Walisson Gomes, Keegan Cornelius, Lucas
Coelho, and Ivenns Martinez. Sophomore goalkeeper, Blake Anderson, stopped
seven of the eight shots he faced and has allowed only one goal in the
past three games. The Larks’ lone goal came with 1:17 remaining
in the game.
Cowley will face a stiff challenge tonight when they host conference-leading
Johnson County at 6 p.m. The Cavaliers are 12-3-1 overall and 8-0-1 in
the conference.
“We are the underdog, but we will see what happens,” Dos Santos
said.
