Tiger socc er falls to conference leading Johnson County
Winners of four games in a row, the Cowley College men’s soccer
team had its winning streak come to an end with a 2-0 loss to conference
leading Johnson County Monday in Arkansas City.
Playing in cold, rainy conditions, neither team was able to create many
scoring opportunities. However, the Cavaliers were able to capitalize
on two of their four shots on goal as they got a goal from Addis Kenae
just 7:32 into the game, and capped the scoring with a goal by Aaron
Weston with 28:17 left to play.
“The weather played a huge factor in the game, it was a heavy, wet field
for both teams,” Cowley head coach Roberto Dos Santos said. “We
knew we would have to play mistake free to win. Both teams made mistakes, but
they were able to capitalize on our mistakes.”
Johnson County managed only one more shot on goal than the Tigers (6-5).
“We showed we were able to play with them,” Dos Santos said.
The loss drops Cowley’s record to 4-6-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the
Jayhawk Conference. Johnson County improves to 13-3-1 overall and 9-0-1
in the conference.
Cowley will look to start a new winning streak when they play at Independence
Thursday at 3 p.m. The Pirates are 0-13 on the season and have been outscored
86-3.
“We will not take anybody for granted, we know they want to get a win
and turn things around,” Dos Santos said.
