Tiger soccer wins again, evens record on the season
Bouncing back from a rough start to its season, the Cowley College men’s
soccer team has come all the way back to even its record on the season.
With its 4-1 win over Crowder College Saturday in Arkansas City, the
Tigers are now 6-6-1 on the year.
“We are a whole different team now,” Cowley head coach Roberto
Dos Santos said. “We are focused and the momentum has shifted completely.”
Cowley, winners of six of its last seven games, got a hat trick from
freshman forward Ivenns Martinez in Saturday’s victory.
“Ivenns had a tremendous game and finished the opportunities he had,” Cowley
head coach Roberto Dos Santos said.
Cowley led just 1-0 at the end of the first half and 2-1 early in the
second half before finally pulling away. The Tigers got a pair of goals
from Martinez in the second half, while Lucas Coelho added the other
goal.
“The second half we were able to execute what we had planned,” Dos
Santos said.
Keegan Cornelius, Walisson Gomes, and Joao Bacchi tallied assists for
the Tigers, while sophomore goalie Blake Anderson needed to stop just
three shots in recording the win.
The Tigers will play its final regular season home game tonight at 7
p.m. when they host Neosho County (5-8-2 overall, 3-4-1 Jayhawk Conference),
which is tied with Cowley for sixth place in the region and conference.
“This is a must win situation for us, we need to get this one if we want
to have a good position in the playoffs,” Dos Santos said.
