Tiger soccer team tripped up at Cloud County

In a tightly contested game played Wednesday in Concordia, the Cowley College men’s soccer team came up on the short end of a 2-1 defeat against Cloud County Community College.

The Thunderbirds grabbed a quick 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by Gary Hynes less than two minutes into the contest. The score would remain 1-0 until 10 minutes into the second half when Cowley’s Joao Bacchi scored to tie the game at 1-1.

With both teams finding scoring opportunities hard to come by, Cloud County finally cashed in as Hynes scored his second goal of the game with 18:13 left to play. Hynes’ goal would prove to be the game-winner as the Thunderbirds improved to 10-7-2 overall and 6-4 in the Jayhawk Conference.

With the loss, Cowley finishes the regular season with a record of 6-8-1 overall and 3-6-1 in the conference. The Tigers placed seventh in the conference and region.

Cowley will play at second-seeded Barton County Tuesday in the Region VI Tournament at 7 p.m. The Tigers lost to the Cougars 2-1 in the teams only meeting during the regular season.
