Pavlovic places third, Bruce-Burgess seventh at Small College Championships

Wrapping up play at the 2009 ITA National Small College Championships in Mobile, AL, Cowley College tennis players Adrijana Pavlovic and Lloyd Bruce-Burgess finished strong as they each earned victories in their final matches.

“Both of them played really well, it was a good way to end the tournament,” Cowley head coach Josh Cobble said.

Pavlovic defeated Reedley College’s Yumiko Justin 6-1, 6-4 in Saturday’s third place match of women’s singles as she won two of her three matches played at the tournament. Jillian O’Neill of Hillsborough Community College, who defeated Pavlovic in the second-round of the tournament, went on to win the junior college women’s singles title.

Bruce-Burgess defeated Meridian Community College’s Gabriel Nicotra 6-3, 6-0 in Saturday’s seventh place match of men’s singles. Damien Hume of Collin County Community College, who defeated Bruce-Burgess in the first-round of the tournament, went on to win the “Super Bowl” of Small College Tennis as he won the singles title amongst NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, and JUCO tennis players.

“This was a good experience for Adrijana and Lloyd, playing a high level of tennis,” Cobble said.
