Harris, Gillmore break school and meet records at Hutchinson Night Relays
Cowley College sophomores Vondrell Harris and Katie Gillmore continue
to break their own school records, while breaking meet records in the
process. This time the duo put on performances to remember at the Hutchinson
Night Relays on Saturday.
Harris, who has broke the school record in the high jump at two consecutive
meets, became the first high jumper in Cowley history and at the Hutchinson
Night Relays to break the seven foot barrier as he jumped 7-0 ½.
“Vondrell is not done yet,” Cowley head coach Mark Phillips said.
While, Gillmore continued her domination of the women’s pole vault
by clearing 12-6 ¾ in the event.
“Both Katie and Vondrell continued their success and jumped really well
in spite of the windy conditions,” Phillips said.
Cowley freshman Michael McLeod fared well in the men’s pole vault
as he cleared 14-feet-6 and placed first in the event. Lady Tiger sophomore
Tiffany Wilcox also had a good day and finished first in the 100-meter
dash with a time of 12.32.
With the Wichita State University KT Woodman Invitational approaching
this Friday and Saturday and the KU Relays to be held the week after,
the majority of Cowley’s distance runners did not compete at Hutchinson.
The Tiger track and field teams will host the Cowley Tiger Decathlon/Heptathlon
Wednesday and Thursday at the Tiger Track and Field Complex. Wednesday’s
competition will begin at 4 p.m. and Thursday’s events will start
at 9:30 a.m.
Cowley’s Mac Griffith and Kameron Conely will compete in the decathlon,
while Richelle Farley and Kate Scott will take part in the heptathlon.
Other teams that will be represented at the meet are, Wichita State University,
Oklahoma Wesleyan University, Hutchinson Community College, Cloud County
Community College, Butler Community College, Coffeyville Community College,
