Farley leading heptathlon, Porter currently second in the decathlon
Hosting the Cowley Tiger Decathlon/Heptathlon Wednesday at the Tiger
Track and Field Complex, Cowley athletes got off to a good start despite
the windy, cool conditions.
The Tigers were led by Richelle Farley (pictured) as the freshman from
Bridgetown, Barbados, jumped out to a commanding lead in the heptathlon.
Farley scored 2,708 points on the first day of the competition, which
is 278 points more than Jamie Pruter of Wichita State University, who
is currently in second place. Cowley sophomore Kate Scott is in ninth
place with 1,594 points.
Wednesday’s heptathlon events consisted of the 100-meter hurdles,
high jump, shot put, and the 200-meter dash. Thursday’s competition
will conclude with the 200-meter dash, long jump, javelin throw, and
800-meter run.
On the men’s side, Cowley’s Adrian Porter (3,281 points)
and Mac Griffith (3,242 points) are currently second and third in the
decathlon, respectively, behind only Austin Bahner (3,449 points), who
is running unattached to a team. Cowley sophomore Kameron Conely is in
sixth place with 2,894 points.
The decathlon athletes competed in the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot
put, high jump, and 400-meter run. The event will finish today with the
110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1,500-meter
run.
Schools represented at the meet are, Cowley College, Wichita State University,
Oklahoma Wesleyan University, Cloud County Community College, Butler
Community College, Coffeyville Community College, Highland Community
College, and Hutchinson Community College.
