Getting to take part in several fun activities, 12 youngsters in grades
1-5 took part in the Mini Tigers Volleyball Camp held Thursday inside
Cowley College’s W.S. Scott Auditorium.
Cowley College volleyball coach Jenifer Bahner and members of the nationally
ranked Lady Tigers conducted the camp, which incorporated fun and interesting
ways to maintain the attention and focus of the young athletes. Along
with learning the fundamentals of volleyball, and taking part in entertaining
drills, the campers designed their own photo frames for the camp photo
and decorated brand new flip-flops to wear at the conclusion of the camp.
Bahner and members of the nationally ranked Lady Tigers will also conduct
a pair of volleyball camps in August. The middle school session will
be held Aug. 3-4, while the high school session will take place Aug.
5-6. The cost is $100 for overnight campers that stay in the dormitories
and $70 for those attending but not staying on campus. A camp t-shirt
will be provided.
The emphasis of the camps is to teach and develop the fundamental techniques
and team concepts of volleyball. Campers will be introduced to all the
skills that make up a complete volleyball player.
There will be a total of four training sessions. Meals will be provided
for residential campers, and commuter campers can pay $5 for each meal
if they would like to eat with the other campers. For more information
or to register for the camp, contact coach Bahner at 620-441-5324 or

In her first season as head coach of the Lady Tiger volleyball team,
Bahner helped Cowley capture the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division
title and finish as the national runner-up. Cowley finished the season
with a record of 32-5 and had the highest winning percentage (86.5%)
in the program’s history.
Prior to coming to Cowley, Bahner served as an assistant coach at Pittsburg
State University for two years and helped lead the Gorillas to back-to-back
national tournament appearances. During that time, the Gorillas were
nationally ranked in the top-25 and had the best season in school-history
at 28-8.
The Cowley College volleyball teams have been nationally ranked each
of the past five seasons and have finished in the top-five each of those
years.
Participants in the Mini Tigers Volleyball Camp were: Jordyn Hanks, Jaidyn
Hanks, Jillian Swanger, Madilynn Sanderholm, Jessica Clark, Kalyn Corley,
Alexandrea Shiever, Jamie Trenary, Emilee Venn, Reganne Young, Sidney
Nittler, and Kendall Ray.
