Woods named Tri-Player of the Week
Helping the Cowley College women’s basketball team to a pair of
wins last week, sophomore center Gianna Woods shared the Kansas Jayhawk
Community College Eastern Division Player of the Week honors with Highland
Community College’s Karli Abbey and Johnson County’s Taylor
Bird.
Woods is a 6-foot sophomore from Compton, CA. She transferred to Cowley
after spending her freshman season at NCAA Division I Robert Morris University
in Pittsburgh, PA.
Last Wednesday, Woods scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in
a 57-33 win over Kansas City. She followed up that performance by scoring
a career high 32 points on 12-20 shooting and went a perfect 8-8 from
the free throw line. She also pulled down seven rebounds.
On the season, Woods is leading Cowley in scoring (15.2 points) and rebounding
(8.1 rebounds). She is also shooting a team-best 51 percent from the
floor and has helped Cowley win 13 of its past 15 games.
Abbey averaged 23.5 points and 6.5 rebounds as Highland split a pair
of games. While, Bird helped Johnson County go 2-0 by averaging 23 points,
15.5 rebounds and 5 assists on the week.
