Getting second half goals from Amber Hernandez and Ciara Corboy, the
Cowley College women’s soccer team held on to defeat Cloud County
2-1 Wednesday in Concordia.
With the win, Cowley finishes in a tie for fifth place with Neosho County
in the conference and region. The Lady Tigers finished the regular season
with a record of 9-7 overall and 6-5 in the conference.
On Wednesday, the game would remain scoreless until Hernandez’s
goal with 30:51 left in the second half. The goal was Hernandez’s
27th of the season. Corboy would add her 12th goal of the year just a
minute and a half later as the Lady Tigers’ lead grew to 2-0.
Cloud County’s Wittney Beckstead’s goal with 17:48 remaining
cut Cowley’s lead in half, however, the Lady Tigers would hold
on for the one-goal win.
Cowley dominated the shots on goal as they out-shot the Lady Thunderbirds
19-5. The loss drops Cloud County’s record to 6-11-2 overall and
4-7 in the conference.
Cowley will be the sixth-seed in the region tournament and will play
at third-seeded Butler Community College Monday at 2 p.m.
