Lady Tiger tennis bounces back with convincing win over Seward County

tennisThree days after a hard fought 5-4 loss to Southern Nazarene University, the No. 6-ranked Cowley College women’s tennis team took the suspense out of its match against Seward County early on Monday as they defeated the Lady Saints 9-0.

Cowley started with three impressive wins from its doubles teams and never looked back as they won for the fourth time in its last five matches.

“We started out strong in doubles and kept the momentum going all day long,” Cowley head coach Josh Cobble said.

The Lady Tigers were equally impressive in singles play as they failed to lose a set. In fact, no Cowley athlete lost more than three games total in its match. Sophomore Natalia Medina did not drop a game in her No. 4 singles match vs. Seward’s Sylvia Perez, while Jessica Montemayor lost just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Seward’s Kaura Goncalves.

Cowley will not be able to celebrate the win for long considering they play a pair of NCAA Division II opponents today in Emporia. The Lady Tigers will take on Emporia State and Washburn University.

“I hope this will prepare us for this weekend’s tournament in Seminole (OK),” Cobble said.
