Lady Tiger tennis knocks off NCAA Division II Washburn University

Getting stellar play from its doubles teams, the Cowley College women’s tennis team picked up a 5-4 win over NCAA Division II Washburn University Saturday in Topeka.

“This was a great test early in the year and to come away with a win against a good (NCAA) Division II school like Washburn is exciting,” Cowley head coach Josh Cobble said.

All three of the Lady Tigers’ doubles teams were victorious as they won 24 of 30 games in doubles play.
“The ladies did a great job getting us off to a good start with the wins in doubles,” Cobble said.

Cowley’s other wins came from Jessica Montemayor and Jamie Blackim in No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Montemayor was victorious in two hard fought sets, while Blackim won her match in three sets.

“Jessica and Jamie did a good job of hanging in there and getting wins in singles,” Cobble said.

Cowley, which has won both of its matches in the fall, will play an exhibition match against the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Wednesday in Tulsa, OK.

“We will be taking everybody to get a good scrimmage in,” Cobble said.
