Ptacek to join another winning program at Friends
Being a part of 51 wins during her two years as a member of the Cowley College basketball team, Kassy Ptacek will join another successful team as she signed a letter of intent with Friends University on Thursday.
Ptacek will join a Lady Falcon program that went 23-9 overall and finished first in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference for the second consecutive year as they finished with a record of 16-2 during the 2012-13 season.
Along with basketball the school also has her major of elementary education.
“She found the perfect situation for her basketball wise and academically,” Cowley head coach Todd Clark said.
Seeing limited playing time as a freshman, Ptacek worked herself into being a major contributor as a sophomore. The 5-foot-8 guard averaged 4.9 points and 3.0 rebounds. Her ability to get to the basket helped her get to the free-throw line a whopping 90 times this past season.
Ptacek saved her best game for last as she poured in 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting in a loss to Hutchinson in the Region VI championship game. Her efforts on the season helped Cowley to a 29-5 record and a second place finish in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division.
“The memories and teammates I had at Cowley made me not want to change it for the world,” Ptacek said. “I understood my role at Cowley and will go to Friends looking to step in and realize my position among the team. I will do what the coach wants and am ready for what the year holds for me.”
Clark praised Ptacek’s work ethic and ability to always bring intensity whether it is in practice or in a game.
“Kassy’s leadership and drive were key to this team,” Clark said.
