ANSWERS to Frequently Asked Questions

Q - “What degrees can I earn through Cowley College at the Southside Center? ”
A - Cowley will be offering courses at the Southside Center so our students can complete their AA (Associate of Arts), AS (Associate of Science) and the AGS (Associate of General Studies) degree.

Q - “What types of courses will Cowley College be offering at Southside? ”
A - Cowley courses at the Southside Center will be offered as online hybrids. This means that the class meets in a classroom for part of the time and then is taught on-line for the rest of the time. Many of our students have found that the hybrid model is one which works well for their busy lifestyles.

Q - “I want to earn a degree through Cowley College. What options do I have?”
A - Students who live in the Wichita area can take hybrid classes at Southside Center, on-line classes through our online college, eCowley, or take classes at the Bloomenshine Mulvane Center, which offers a more traditional classroom setting.

Our Career and Technical Education centers in Mulvane, Winfield, and Ark City offer programs in Automotive Technology, Machine and Tools, Mechatronics, Non-Destructive Testing and Welding.

If you are interested in a career in Health Care, the Allied Health Center in Winfield is recognized as one of the best in the nation.

The Arkansas City campus provides courses in a classroom setting as well as a complete college campus experience (dormitories, wellness center, cafeteria, athletics and activities). Take a tour of the Ark City campus and check out everything we offer.

To see the list of courses offered at each location, by semester, go to Class Schedules. Select a Semester, then select a Location. All courses offered at the location you selected will be listed.

Q - Can I still get financial aid at the Southside Center?
A - Yes.  You can still receive pell grants, loans and other financial aid at the Southside Center.  You just need to list both schools on your FAFSA form.
Cowley’s OPEID # is 001902, and WATC’s OPEID # is 005498.

Q - Will there still be a bookstore?
A - You can still buy books and merchandise at the Southside bookstore and the Cowley College online bookstore.

Q - I have been on a Cowley College Scholarship this year.  Is it still good for next year at the Southside Center?
A - Yes. As long as you meet your scholarship criteria, we will honor your scholarship with us for the 2008/2009 academic year.   Please be aware that we are able to scholarship you only for classes that are offered through Cowley College. Since both colleges will have classes at the center, it is important that you know which college is offering your courses. You can check with the advisor when you enroll about which college is teaching your class. We will honor your Cowley scholarship for Cowley classes at the center as long as you continue to meet your requirements.

Q - How do I tell which college is teaching my class at the center?
A - The online Class Schedules have the courses separated by their host school. The header for the courses taught at the Southside Center by Cowley College is Southside/Wichita (Cowley Courses). The header for the courses taught by WATC is Southside/Wichita (WATC Courses).

Another way to determine which college is teaching the class is to look at the course number. Courses taught at the Southside Center have a four-digit section code as the last four digits of the Course Code for each class. If this section number includes an "S", the course is a Cowley College course. For example, Introduction to Philosophy  PHO6447 SS70. An HS section number means that the course is a Hybrid Course taught by Cowley College.

If the section number includes a "W", it is a WATC course. For example, a college algebra class offered by WATC is listed as MTH4420 WI02.  An HW section number means that the course is a Hybrid Course taught by WATC. Credit for courses taught by Wichita Area Technical College will be awarded by WATC but will be fully accepted for Cowley College degree requirements.

Advisors can assist you with this determination as well. Please be aware that we are in a transition period and there could be a few more changes during the summer. We will do our best to notify you of changes, but we encourage you to check your schedule periodically throughout the summer.

Q - My Cowley scholarship says I have to be enrolled in 12 credit hours to meet the scholarship requirements.   What if I can only take 6 credit hours with Cowley at the Southside Center due to the mixed offerings?
A - Cowley College will honor your scholarship regardless of how many Cowley hours you take. We realize that your schedule may include classes from both schools due to the combined schedule that is offered. Therefore, if you are only able to take one Cowley course, we will still scholarship you for that course. Again, please understand that we can only scholarship you for your Cowley courses.

Q - Who can I contact if I have other questions?
