McVey“It means a lot to be able to represent the community and the school as Queen Alalah,” McVey said.

The first runner-up was Lakynn Butler, another Ark City native. The other three candidates were Lisa Friesen, Rose Hooley, and Jamesia Milton.

McVey is the daughter of John and Jeannette McVey of Arkansas City.

Queen Alalah LXXXI, Mariah Vargas, was on hand to pass her crown onto McVey.

The coronation also had performances by Cowley College vocal instructor Lindsay Allen, the Ark City Dance Company, and the Ark City Middle School Magic Voices and rock band.

Krystle Nies and Steve Butler served as the Master of Ceremonies and introduced the former queens and the visiting queens from surrounding towns in southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma. They were also present for the crowning of Little Mister and Miss Arkalalah.

McVey came to Cowley as the recipient of several scholarships and was a member of the Lady Tiger basketball team as a freshman. This year, she is a student ambassador, work study in the Natural Science Department, and is involved in Phi Theta Kappa.

She can now add Queen Alalah LXXXII to her long list of accomplishments.

“This is awesome!” McVey said. “I plan to enjoy it.”
