Honors continue for Cowley student Maggie Campbell
But that's OK. She's more than making the most
out of her sophomore year at Cowley. Campbell, a Cedar Vale native and the daughter
of Karen and Michael Campbell, recently was
named November Student of the Month, less than
a month after becoming just the second student
not from Arkansas City to be crowned Queen Alalah.
She is Queen Alalah LXX. Campbell, an elementary education major with
a 4.0 grade-point average, was honored to be
named Student of the Month. "I couldn't believe it when I was told,"
she said. "I'm excited and honored." Campbell has had no trouble keeping busy at
Cowley. She's a member of the women's basketball
team, is a Student Ambassador, is a member of
Phi Theta Kappa, and is involved in Campus Christian
Fellowship. She holds a work-study job with
the college's maintenance department, and she
is a member of the First Baptist Church of Cedar
Vale. Campbell said involvement was a key for any
Student of the Month. "It's someone who is very involved and
responsible in the sense of academics and the
activities they're in," Campbell said.
"I try to be a leader and help the school
be a better place for all of us." Being crowned Queen Alalah also was special
to Campbell. When she was in first grade, she
and other members of Cindy's School of Dance
in Arkansas City performed routines on Summit
Street as part of Arkalalah's Saturday parade.
Years later, Campbell became a visiting queen
as Miss Cedar Vale, and got her first glimpse
of the coronation. Campbell, who has an older brother Jacob and
older sister Jami, has given her future some
thought. "I loved it (having her father as coach)," Campbell said. "He was great, and still coaches me a little bit now." [Cowley
