MICT Program

Dr. James McDermott has been very instrumental in establishing and providing guidance for the MICT program. Additionally, each student completes a clinical rotation with him to gain incredible experience and knowledge. Because of this, we have dedicated a classroom addition in his honor.

Recently, Dr. McDermott was named one of the top country doctors in the US. He has vast experience in EMS and medical care in a variety of settings. We are extremely pleased to have him at Cowley!

This addition adds a laboratory training room which is 24' x 50'. We also finished another room which is approximately 20' x 25'. Inside this room we have a mock bedroom, bar, living room and bathroom.

All of our laboratory training at Cowley provides students with the best learning opportunities. Stop by and visit our facility.

Here are just a few images of students participating in the Cowley EMS experience....

This clearly shows how much room we have in the component skill laboratory training room. Students have state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to learn the art and science of emergency medicine.

Students have ample space to practice specific types of procedures and patient management skills.

To make our "virtual" training as realistic as possible, students act as patients. Here the patient is unresponsive in our training bathroom found in the McDermott Wing.

This student is experiencing the reality of working a resuscitation without adequate help in our mock bedroom. Experiences like this prepare our students to be critical thinkers and it truly facilitates learning.

We use moulage to help make illnesses and injuries more realistic. Two students are treating this "patient" in our mock bathroom who is suffering from thrombophlebitis.

As you all know, EMS responds to drinking establishments. Because of this, we added a mock bar to add more realism to the McDermott Wing. These students are gaining experience in this setting

We all know that some EMS calls originate outside a patient's home. Because of this, some of our education and training occurs outside.

Cowley also has a fully stocked advanced life support ambulance for providing even more realism.
