Teacher Education Admission Requirements

  1. 35 hours of basic skills and general education,
    • English Composition 1           (grade of C or better)
    • English Composition 2           (grade of C or better)
    • Basic Public Speaking            (grade of C or better)
    • College Algebra or higher level math course (grade of C or better)

  2.   General Psychology
     
  3. Elementary Statistics (or Calculus if secondary education mathematics)
     
  4. ONE of the following:
    *Note:  All tests below must be within the last 10 years from date of Teacher Education application

    1. ACT - 22 in each subtest measuring Reading, English, and Mathematics

      (Elementary/Early Childhood majors also need: CBASE score - 235 in Science and Social Studies – see item c below)

      ** OR *

    2. Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST/Praxis I)

      • Writing                      Score of 172 or higher
      • Reading                   Score of 173 or higher
      • Mathematics           Score of 172 or higher

        (Elementary/Early Childhood majors also need: CBASE score - 235 in Science and Social Studies – see item c below)

        ** OR **

    3. College BASE Test (CBASE) with a passing score of 235 (minimum) in English, Reading/Writing, and Mathematics – Registration can be done at: www.registerblast.com/wsu
            
      (Elementary/Early Childhood majors also need 235 in Science and Social Studies)

  5. Introduction to the Teaching Profession (B or better) and Field Experience (C or better)
     
  6. Grade Point Average (GPA)
    • Overall GPA: 2.5
    • 35 hours of general education coursework GPA: 2.75
    • WSU GPA: 2.5 (if applicable)

  7. Completed Application to the WSU College of Education
