Secondary students attend Skills USA national competitions
Skills USATwo Cowley College secondary students recently attended and competed at the Skills USA national competitions held in Louisville, Kentucky. Both students are enrolled in the Manufacturing Technology (Mechatronics) program taught by Instructor Daniel Higdon.
Cory Shaw, a Winfield High School Junior, and Tim Nickel, an Arkansas City High School Junior, were paired up to compete at the state level Skills USA competitions held in Hutchinson, KS last April. Shaw and Nickel earned first place at the state level which qualified them to attend the national level where they had a tremendous experience and gained a ton of knowledge about the Skills USA program. read more

 

auto programAutomotive program staying busy with class offerings
Students in the Automotive Service Technology program at Cowley College are gaining valuable insight learning how to work on vehicle’s heating and air conditioning systems and finishing year-long projects through the middle of June.  read more

 

Dayne McNuttbox Cowley College student Dayne McNutt recently made five smaller boxes to fit inside one large box in the school’s machine shop. The large box was machined on all six sides to create it. This is a school-record for the most boxes without breaking as the previous record was four and it was done with aluminum, while this one was made of pine.

 

Cowley College and SCEDC sponsor a Business and Industry tour

Business and Industry tourSumner County Economic Development Commission (SCEDC) and Cowley College sponsored a Business and Industry tour for students from Sumner County schools on March 12. 

The students and teachers toured GKN Aerospace and Countryside Motors in Wellington and then headed to Mulvane to tour the Cowley College Automotive and Welding program facilities. Students from Wellington USD 353 and Argonia USD 359 participated in the day. 

The purpose of the tour was to familiarize the students with employment and education opportunities available within Sumner County.  read more
