Assistant Coach — Men's and Women's Soccer

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Classification: Group 4

Department: Athletics

Position Reports To: Head Coach — Men's and Women's Soccer

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

Job Summary:

The Assistant Coach-Soccer position is a live-in position that has duel responsibilities as Assistant Coach for the Soccer teams and as a Dorm Manager for one of the residential dorms located on the Arkansas City Campus. As an Assistant Coach, this position is responsible for assisting with various aspects of the soccer programs, such as recruiting, planning, coaching, scheduling opponents, training team members and coordinating statistics. As the Dorm Manager, this positon is responsible for overseeing students in the dormitory and assists in the development and implementation of all residential and community activities.

 

Position Duties:

  • Assists the head coach in managing and directing the men’s and women’s programs.
  • Teach fundamentals and techniques, as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Assists the Head Coach with all aspects of the team including training, competing and scheduling.
  • Record and maintain accurate statistics for all soccer games and update NJCAA, KJCCC and Cowley websites weekly while in season of competition.
  • Coordinate game film recording and editing for coach and player review.
  • Coordinate field set up for game day.
  • Coordinate study hall for men’s and women’s teams
  • Assists with the monitoring of daily academic reports for men’s and women’s programs.
  • Assists with the recruiting process.
  • Coordinate with Student Services for all international recruits admissions requirements.
  • Teach sportsmanship and set an example of good moral and physical behavior.
  • Maintain knowledge of offensive and defensive coaching strategies.
  • Assist on training of Goalkeeper and or other assignments on the field during practice and games.
  • Represent Cowley College and the Athletic Department in a professional manner.
  • Be familiar with and follow all policies and procedures of the KJCCC and NJCAA.
  • Organize and maintain accurate inventory of equipment and uniforms.
  • Assist with coordination of travel arrangements.
  • Coordinate facility needs of visiting teams.
  • Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department, attends department meetings and activities, and always represents the college positively when interacting with the community, other college departments, alumni, high school and club coaches, media and general public.

 

Dorm Manager:

  • Act as a positive role model and will work directly with dormitory students in the development and enforcement of rules to assure proper student conduct and care of facilities.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of new Resident Assistants (RA). Assist with RA training program each semester.
  • Develop a semester dorm activity schedule and coordinate communication of events with Resident Assistants, Dorm Managers, Director of Student Life and the Director of Housing.
    • Coordinate Christmas party.
    • 1-2 larger events per semester (specific to Dormitory).
    • Create and submit activities schedule for semester at least 2 weeks prior to start of semester.
    • Manage budget for activities.
    • Communicate and Market each activity throughout campus.
  • Supervise, direct, develop, mentor, select, train and evaluate 2-3 Resident Assistants, connecting student growth and development to specific learning outcomes.
    • Schedule weekly meetings with RA, providing feedback to Director of Housing.
  • Manage all room changes. Check in/out students during move-in/move-out days and throughout the semester. Inspect for damage during check-out.
  • Maintain Rooming Roster with 100% accuracy.
  • Maintain all housing reports.
  • Conduct regular inspections for the appearance, operation, safety and security of the dormitories and report all issues to the Director of Housing.
    • Must conduct inspections at least twice a semester.
    • Follow-up 24 hours after a concern is found.
  • Assist with all safety drills, room and drug inspections.
  • Attend weekly manager meetings.
  • On-call rotation for the 5 campus dormitories.
  • Follow-up on all student concerns.
  • Identify and refer students to College services, including but not limited to, Student Life, Counselor, Director of Health Services and Tutoring.
  • Process and deliver student mail for dormitory.
  • Provide soccer travel and recruitment schedule to the Director of Housing.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to teach fundamental skills of soccer.
  • Sound knowledge of soccer coaching.
  • Ability to represent educational goals and philosophy of Cowley College to members of college community and prospective students.
  • Must possess a positive attitude towards students and understand their social and personal development needs.
  • Demonstrate an ability to supervise and positively motivate students.
  • Must have the ability to react quickly in emergency situations.
  • Must have the ability to remain calm in tense situations and effectively deal with confrontational situations.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as on a team.
  • Ability to work and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Good communications skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work. Work well under deadline pressures.
  • Excellent human relations skills. Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Understanding of and commitment to AQIP.

 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, required. Master’s Degree, preferred.

 

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of high school coaching experience.
  • College level recruiting and coaching experience, preferred.
  • Valid Driver License. Commercial Driver License, preferred.

 
Physical Requirements:
Ability to maintain physical mobility and composure and to assist with physical student activity; Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around the campus and outreach centers; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive motor vehicle.

 

Work Environment:
Work is performed indoors and/or outdoors in conditions including loud and constant noise. The employee is required to travel.

Head Coach — Bowling

Location: Mulvane Center

Classification: Group 2

Department: Athletics

Position Reports To: Athletic Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

Job Summary:

The Head Coach-Men's and Women's Bowling is responsible for initiating various aspects of the program, such as recruiting, planning, coaching, scheduling opponents, training team members, managing and directing the bowling program. The Head Coach--Men's and Women's Bowling is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Cowley College, Jayhawk Athletic Conference and the NJCAA.

 

Position Duties:

  • Manages and directs the bowling program.
  • Coaches the bowling team.
  • Manages all aspects of the team including strength and conditioning, practicing, competing and scheduling.
  • Evaluates and recruits qualified student athletes.
  • Manages a fiscally sound budget.
  • Monitors class schedules, grades and student athlete academic progress.
  • Responsible for marketing and promoting the bowling program.
  • Assists the administration and Tiger Booster Club with alumni relations, community projects and fundraising.
  • Commits to and is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the College, the Jayhawk Athletic Conference and the NJCAA with the utmost integrity.
  • Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department and College community, attends department meetings and activities, and always represents the College positively within interacting with the community, alumni, high school coaches, media and general public.
  • Coordinate the development of schedules for bowling including arrangement for facilities, transportation, food, lodging, game officials, physical examinations, contracts with opponents and other related matters.
  • Provide leadership in working with high schools and other agencies in the area to provide a base of support for those sports conducted by the College.
  • Exhibit exemplary behavior in game conditions, demonstrating a winning attitude and a sensitivity of his/her influence on players and fans. Responsible for monitoring the conduct of athletes on campus and in the community.
  • Assist in the transfer and placement of student athletes.
  • Plan and Host 4 student life activities at the Mulvane Campus for the student body each semester (fall/spring)
  • Coordinate student life activities with the Director of Intramurals and Director of Student Life
  • Assist the Athletic Director by performing other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to recruit, coach and teach highly talented student athletes.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the College, Jayhawk Athletic Conference and NJCAA.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to teamwork, process leadership and consensus decision making.
  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Ability to integrate resources, policies and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes.

  • Knowledge of management methods and ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility and provide direct training and supervision, as needed.

Required Education Background:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, required.  Master’s Degree, preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification, preferred.
  • Commercial Driver’s License, preferred.

 

Required Experience:

  • Collegiate bowling coaching experience.
  • 3-5 years collegiate coaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success at the national level, preferred.
  • A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the community college mission and philosophy.

 
Supervisory Requirements: Work Study Students
