HEERF I – CARES

Request COVID-19 Relief Funds

All HEERF I Funds have been awarded and this grant is now closed.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act signed into law on March 27, 2020, created education stabilization funds available through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF).

Cowley College has received $1,206,714 in total from the CARES ACT. Cowley College will distribute 50% of these funds ($603,357) directly to students as emergency financial assistance to help cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations in the wake of COVID-19. CC students must meet the following eligibility requirements to receive CARES Act Funding:

  • Eligible to receive Title IV federal aid. This eligibility is evaluated through completion of the 2019-2020 FAFSA.
  • Enrolled on/after March 23, 2020 for Spring 2020 students attending in-person course(s).
  • Experienced expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19.

If you are eligible to file a FAFSA, but have not yet filed for 2019-2020 and need assistance please contact us at 620-441-5304. The FAFSA can be filed at studentaid.gov.

The U.S Department of Education has excluded certain students from eligibility.  Those students that are part of any of the following categories are not eligible to request funds:

  • International students
  • Undocumented students
  • Students who were enrolled exclusively in online programs on March 13th
  • High school students

Grant Funds may not cover all costs requested or actually incurred. It’s beneficial to document actual amounts paid and provide as many details as possible in the explanation.

  • Technology Expenses
  • Food Expense
  • Housing Expenses
  • Child Care Expense

We will award available funds based on number of hours enrolled for Spring and Summer.
