Campbell Named Top Student
Maggie Campbell, a sophomore from Cedar Vale, was named Cowley’s Student of the Year during the annual Celebration of Excellence, the honors and awards banquet, April 23 in the Earle N. Wright Community Room. Campbell was chosen from the pool of eight Students of the Month throughout the 2001-2002 academic year.
Sue Saia, dean of student life, presented Campbell with the award. More than 220 people attended the banquet. Campbell, who was named the November 2001 Student of the Month, has had a successful two years at Cowley.
The daughter of Karen and Michael Campbell of Cedar Vale became just the second student not from Ark City to be crowned Queen Alalah last October. And most recently, Campbell was a finalist for the Outstanding Student of Arkansas City Award presented by the city of Arkansas City. Cowley student Blake Stites, a sophomore from Prescott, won that award.
Campbell, an elementary education major, holds a 4.0 grade-point average, was a member of the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division champion Lady Tiger basketball team, is a Student Ambassador, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, is involved in Campus Christian Fellowship, and is an Honor Graduate, meaning she is in the top 10 percent of Cowley’s spring graduating class of approximately 450 students. Students in more than a dozen campus clubs and organizations were honored during the annual banquet.
