Cochran named first recipient of Shanks Family/Jodi
Having served as a lab partner with Jodi Sanderholm while at Arkansas City High School, and as a member of the Danceline at Cowley College, sophomore Ashley Cochran was named the first recipient of the Shanks Family/Jodi Sanderholm Scholarship on Sept. 6.
“I feel privileged to be the first one because she was a very good friend,” Cochran said.
Cochran is a pre-dentistry major that has a 4.0 grade point average at Cowley. Along with being a member of the Tigerette Danceline, she is also involved in Campus Christian Fellowship and serves as a tutor at the college.
The scholarship Cochran was awarded totaled $1,200 for the 2007-08 school year. The scholarship committee at Cowley College made the final selection of Cochran as the recipient of the award.
Sanderholm, a 19-year-old Arkansas City native, was a member of the Cowley College Tigerette Danceline and a pre-pharmacy major. The former Arkansas City high School valedictorian had a 4.0 grade point average at Cowley.
The Shanks Family/Jodi Sanderholm Scholarship, which was established in February, has received nearly $39,000 in contributions.
The scholarship is an endowed scholarship and will be awarded annually to a Cowley student. The recipient of the scholarship must be enrolled in a science curriculum; be a full-time student enrolled in 12 or more hours; and maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average.
